Data Platform Engineer
Role Description
As a Data Platform Engineer at WMC, you will be responsible for building and operating a modern Azure-based data platform where Data Engineering and DevOps come together. You will design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines, while ensuring the underlying infrastructure is reliable, automated, and secure. You will take ownership of data ingestion, transformation, and delivery to support analytics, reporting, and data-driven decision-making. At the same time, you will apply DevOps principles to automate deployments, improve observability, and ensure platform reliability and performance.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Build and maintain reliable data pipelines using Azure Data Factory and Azure SQL.
- Design and automate infrastructure with Terraform, focusing on data environments and access control.
- Improve CI/CD workflows for data projects using GitHub Actions.
- Implement testing and monitoring to ensure data quality and performance.
- Work closely with the BI team and external developers to make the data platform easier to use and maintain.
- Contributing to architectural decisions around scalability, performance, and security.
- Continuously identifying and implementing operational improvements and automation opportunities.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of experience in Data Engineering, DevOps, or Platform Engineering in a cloud environment.
- Strong experience with Azure cloud services, including Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, and Data Lake Storage.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and CI/CD practices.
- Proficiency in SQL and experience with Python or similar scripting languages.
- Knowledge of data modelling, data transformation, and pipeline orchestration.
- Proactive, analytical, and collaborative mindset with the ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
